UCI World Championships: Information if you're travelling with a bicycle

In this section:

Key information if you're bringing a bike to the airport

Thousands of cyclists and spectators will arrive in Scotland this August for the UCI World Championships, and we're looking forward to welcoming many of those through the airport.

However, we should point out, there are a few important things you need to be aware of if travelling with a bike (it's not quite as simple as checking these in the normal way).

Whether you're flying into EDI with a bike in tow, or you're checking it in for your departure once the event finishes, there are some key steps to follow to ensure the brakes aren't put on your journey.

Taking bikes on public transport

  • ScotRail trains carry bikes for free! It’s worth bearing in mind you might need to pre-book on certain services though.

  • Travelling on a LNER train? You’ll need to reserve a bike space with them.

  • Buses normally won’t carry bikes unless they’re foldable – your best bet is to check with the company direct!

  • You can usually take your bike on the tram unless there isn’t space during peak hours, the guard will keep you right for this one.
