World famous for its annual folk festival, millions descend on Munich every year for the iconic parades, music and, of course, beer drinking.

The city itself melds traditional Bavaria with modern Germany. Rebuilt from war times in its original medieval style, Munich’s beautiful architecture gives a taste of times gone by. Today, the city is alive with fantastic museums, edgy art and an abundance of breweries.

Marvel at the impressive Schloss Nymphenberg, a Baroque palace complete with sprawling gardens; learn all about Bavarian history at the Bayerisches Museum; and savour the atmosphere in the Englischer Garten - one of Europe's biggest city parks.

Ski fans will also enjoy this city's proximity to the Bavarian Alps, and some of the brilliant ski resorts located nearby. Garmisch-Partenkirchen is arguably the most famous of all, with a range of world renowned slopes linked by mountain railway.
