Edinburgh Airport Update 14:30 03/03/2018

With no changes to weather forecasts ahead, this will be our last update as we are returning to normal operations.

We’d like to thank everyone for their ongoing patience and support while we’ve battled with #BeastFromTheEast.

We are expecting to fly 84% of our flights today - we had 215 scheduled flights of which 34 have been cancelled.

We encourage passengers to check with their airlines regarding their flight status.


Edinburgh Airport Update 10:00 03/03/18

We are beginning to return to business as usual as a number of airlines confirm the full schedules for the day.

However weather around the UK and Europe is causing some delays and cancellations.

We continue to ask passengers to check with their airline regarding their flight details before travelling to the airport.

We understand that the situation can be frustrating and we continue thank passengers for their ongoing patience and support.

Edinburgh Airport Update 07:50 03/03/18

It’s been a busy couple of days battling #BeastFromTheEast but today Edinburgh Airport opens for business as usual.

Weather warnings for Edinburgh have been downgraded, however we are seeing a number of delays and some cancellations due to the growing weather disruptions around Europe.

As this situation is very fluid, it is important that passengers check with their airline regarding their flight details before travelling to the airport.

We understand that the situation can be frustrating and we continue thank passengers for their ongoing patience and support.

It is still very white out there, we ask people to make safe decisions regarding their travel.


Update from Edinburgh Airport 13:45 02/03/18

Edinburgh Airport remains open and operating. We have flown 31% of our schedule today.

We are currently scheduled to have departures up to 20:50 tonight.

Our expectation is that airlines will run full schedule tomorrow and we continue to work hard to make that possible. We will be snow clearing throughout.

We remind passengers that both easyJet and Ryanair have cancelled operations for today.

Any passengers whose flights have been cancelled should not come to the airport. It is important that passengers only travel to the airport if their airline confirms their flight is flying.

Today remains challenging and there will be disruption. We understand that the fluidity of the situation can be frustrating and we thank passengers for their ongoing patience and support.

Update from Edinburgh Airport 11:15 02/03/18

Edinburgh Airport remains open and operating.

Staffing across our partners remains an issue but we are deploying 4x4s to ensure vital staff can get to the airport.

In terms of airlines both easyJet and Ryanair have cancelled operations for today.

Any passengers whose flights have been cancelled should not come to the airport. It is important that passengers only travel to the airport if their airline confirms their flight is flying.

Today remains challenging and there will be disruption. We understand that the fluidity of the situation can be frustrating and we thank passengers for their ongoing patience and support.

Amber weather warnings remain in place and the safety of our passengers and our staff is our priority. We ask people to make safe decisions regarding their travel.


Update from Edinburgh Airport 18:15 01/03/18

Our plan, weather dependent, is that Edinburgh Airport will be open for those airlines that wish to operate tomorrow. Our staff will be working through the night to ensure that our runway is clear and we have the resources we need.

Airlines have informed us that they intend to fly the following schedule:

Early Arrivals

  • Qatar
  • United

Departures

  • easyJet commencing operations at 1200
  • Ryanair commencing operations at 1300
  • Flybe commencing operations 1000
  • Jet2 commencing operations 0900 and will run full schedule
  • British Airways will commence operations late morning

Tomorrow is likely to remain challenging and there will be disruption. We understand that the fluidity of the situation can be frustrating and we thank passengers for their ongoing patience and support.

Update from Edinburgh Airport 12:00 01/03/18

Edinburgh Airport will close fully from 6pm this evening.

Airlines that are still planning to run operations in advance of that closure are:

  • Lufthansa
  • Jet2
  • Qatar
  • Brussels
  • Etihad
  • Loganair

We ask that all other passengers DO NOT come to the airport. All passengers should check with their airline before travelling to the airport

We believe that closure at 6pm gives us the best opportunity to prepare for tomorrow. We are expecting further disruption tomorrow and that the situation regarding getting staff to and from the airport will remain challenging.

For now, our priority is our passengers and our staff. We are working closely with Marketing Edinburgh and the city’s hoteliers to find accommodation for any stranded passengers. We are grateful for the response from city hotels to house those who need it.

Update from Edinburgh Airport 10:45 01/03/18

Travel conditions in Scotland this morning remain difficult and are likely to remain so for the rest of the day. This means that the some airlines do not have the critical mass of staff needed to run operations securely.

These airlines have decided not to fly today:

  • British Airways
  • Ryanair
  • easyJet
  • Turkish
  • KLM
  • Flybe
  • Aer Lingus
  • Air France

We ask that passengers do not come to the airport if they are flying with these carriers. All passengers should check with their airline before travelling to the airport

Further updates about other airlines and tomorrow’s operations will be made over the course of the day.

For now, our priority is our passengers and our staff. We are working closely with Marketing Edinburgh and the city’s hoteliers to find accommodation for any stranded passengers. We are grateful for the response from the City to assist those in need.

Update from Edinburgh Airport 07:40 01/03/18

Travel conditions in Scotland this morning mean that the airport and airlines do not have the critical mass of staff needed to run operations securely.

The airport is therefore closed until this position is reviewed at 10:00 today.

We ask that passengers do not come to the airport unless their airline has confirmed that their flight is scheduled.

Is my flight still scheduled?

Most airlines have cancelled flights, with British Airways and easyJet confirming flights cancelled until lunchtime on 1 March. We ask passengers not to travel to the airport unless they have a confirmed scheduled flight. You should check the status of your flight with your airline before travelling to Edinburgh Airport.

How are the roads around the airport?

The roads around Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife are fairly snowy. You should take care if travelling, and take note of the updates from Traffic Scotland.

What public transport can I take?

There are direct connections to Edinburgh and Scotland through Edinburgh Trams and Lothian Buses. You can also connect to the Scottish Rail network at the Gogar station.
