Spend time exploring the city’s Old Town with its quaint streets, beautiful courtyards and a wealth of landmarks that tell Salzburg’s story. A great starting point is the Town Square where you will find the impressive cathedral and can enjoy the wonderful market here. Learn more about the city’s most famous son and visit the impressive Mozart’s museum set inside his old family home. Another draw of the Old Town is to wander along the picturesque Getreidegasse, a narrow street where you can marvel at their iconic old style signs on each shop and enjoy a coffee or beer, both mastered in this city.

Salzburg is truly a stunning city and be sure to visit one of its fantastic palaces or gardens, a true highlight of Salzburg. Venture to the Salzburg Fortress for impressive views and to learn about its 1000 year history or explore the beautiful garden of the Mirabell Palace. Furthermore, if you want to hear about another of the city’s famous musical connections then the city offers Sound of Music tours to see many of the film’s famous settings.

There is plenty to keep you occupied within the city but with such a beautiful backdrop and mountain range just outside, many may want to see what the surrounding area has to offer. Many are keen to get the cable car up the Untersberg Mountain for the breathtaking views and to hike near the top. There are also lots of opportunities for more hiking, mountain biking and of course come winter, the city is an excellent gateway to some of the best ski resorts that Austria has to offer
