Hey - I’m Ruth
Hey - I’m Ruth
I’m originally from the Isle of Skye, born in Glasgow and currently live in Edinburgh after a stint of living in Oxford. From the word go, geography has been a huge part of my life.
My working life at times makes me feel like I am a professional social butterfly as it involves people, travel, an ever-growing library of stories and portfolio of photos from the professional (and personal) experiences I walk through. Edinburgh Airport feels like my second home as it increasingly becomes the gateway to the world I live in. I have lost count of the amount of times Edinburgh Airport has helped me meet the people I work and socialise with, travel to the places I visit, and help me create memorable stories I will repeatedly converse about.
I have been flying in and out of Edinburgh Airport since 2007 and some years have seen me fly from it up to 22 times. I have seen the airport go on a journey of its own as it grows and expands to be the place where Scotland meets the world.
So why am I writing this blog? As mentioned, I love to share stories and a lot of them are communicated through photography. I post on various social media platforms about my daily experiences, brilliant moments and positive updates created to share some hope and inspiration. A number of my posts have included Edinburgh Airport, when one day out of the blue, the communications team got in touch and asked me to expand a little more on the stories I share.
Social media can be a funny thing at times. I am a great believer that we will never know the fruits of our labour, and a lot of the time I have no idea if my posts are reaching anyone, let a lone the distances they travel. From time to time, my posts will surprisingly capture the attention of the most random, yet brilliant account holders, situated in countries thousands of miles away. And here I am now co-blogging for Edinburgh airport after a few posts they saw of mine online. Who knew? My response…? Never underestimate the power of social media – the distances your virtual stories can travel, and the underlying legacy each post can have as they potentially make an impression – hopefully positive – on those that read them.
Over a series of posts, you will be able to join me on a virtual journey and see the things I get up to, the people I meet & work with and read the stories of the experiences I have. My life leads me to speak into humanitarian and political arenas; cut and style a vast portfolio of hair clients; promote and host a number of music artists; create community spaces through events & hospitality and scout umpteen iconic local, national & international sites. Everywhere I go and in everything I do, there is always a photo and story to be shared which Edinburgh Airport often has a role to play in, somewhere a long the way. I hope you like what you are about to see and read…
