Just one hour south of the Baltic Sea, Szczecin is an incredible sea port city in the North of Poland. Earning the nickname of the Venice of the North, Szczecin may not be on your bucket list but it should be as it’s packed full of picturesque spots, culture and historical buildings.
Szczecin is filled with picturesque spots due to the abundance of water and greenery, so spend the afternoon wandering the beautiful Rózanka Rose Garden or enjoy the nature in the Kasprowicza Park. If the weather is not on your side, there are a number of fantastic museums to explore. The Museum of Technology and Transport is a favourite in the city with a great collection of vehicles on display, perfect for an afternoon indoors.
If you want to ensure that you see as many of Szczecin’s must see and interesting monuments as possible, then why not follow the Red Route, a 7km round tourist route marked by a dotted red line on the pavement.
A walk along the Waly Chrobry Embankment along the Odra River is a definite must, and a climb up the 13 metre high stairway to reach two viewing platforms is well worth it to enjoy the view of the Odra River and the harbour cranes on the horizon.
Why not visit the neighbourhood Stare Miasto when you are keen for a coffee break or a bite to eat. This old town is filled with quirky, colourful architecture and lots of nice cafes and restaurants to sit and watch the world go by.
If you are looking to venture outside of the city, you will be treated to wonderful towns, forest and lagoons. Just outside of the city you will find ‘Beech Woods’, a superb landscape park perfect for a long walk if you are keen for a peaceful stroll surrounded by nature.
