  • Bastille – One of Grenoble’s most recognised buildings is the impressive fortress set on top of the hills so dominates the skyline and gives visitor world class panoramic views over the city and beyond into the mountains.

If you are looking for a skiing holiday then Grenoble is a popular choice to fly into as you can be on the slopes within a couple hours’ drive from the airport. There is an abundance of choice including the award winning Alpe d’Huez, which offers one of the world’s longest slopes, a lively atmosphere and is a great option if this is your first time on the slopes. Or alternatively, Courchevel with only a 1 hour 45 minute transfer time is one if the world’s most recognised ski resorts not only boasting excellent slopes but truly outstanding high end hotels.

With the bountiful choice of ski resorts so close by, it is easy to overlook the city of Grenoble as simply an entrance point to the area but if you decide to stay within the city, you will not be disappointed. Along with superb dining options, the city offers visitors some interesting museums; discover the Musee of Grenoble viewed as one of the best French museums for paintings and art outside of the capital which span from the 13th century onwards or marvel at the impressive collection of 3000 plus recovered artefacts at the Archaeological Museum.

Set in the Alps, Grenoble also offers a picturesque backdrop and perfect terrain for those who love to hike and mountaineering enthusiasts. There are also a number of excellent parks with the Parc Paul Mistral being in the heart of the city or the Parc Naturel Regional du Vercors, a hidden gem not far from Grenoble.
