Whisky is the star of new food and drink festival at Edinburgh Airport

11 August 2014

With millions of people expected to arrive into Edinburgh over the next few months for its world-famous events and the Ryder Cup, Edinburgh Airport has launched a unique festival of its own, with one of Scotland’s most famous exports taking centre stage.

Until the end of September, the Scottish Selection will showcase the unrivalled choice of whisky on offer at Edinburgh Airport and give dram-lovers from all over the world the chance to be part of this unique celebration.

A special partnership between the airport, its travel retailer World Duty Free and food and beverage provider Delaware North will see airport chefs create stunning new dishes and cocktails using exclusive Auchentoshan single malt Scotch whiskies.

Scottish classics such as haggis, neeps and tatties, or mouth-watering venison, both served with an Auchentoshan whisky sauce, are available at The Gathering. Or, if you are in the mood for something lighter, why not pair a dram with some rich Spanish manchego cheese at Thermidors Champagne Bar?

No matter what your whisky palate or preference, there’s something for everyone and whisky is the ideal gift to take home to relatives or as a special treat for yourself. There’s a vast selection of products to choose from in World Duty Free, ranging from classic malts like Auchentoshan and Glenmorangie, to travel exclusives that aren’t available on the UK high street. One such example is the exceptional 40-year-old Brora priced at just under £7000.

World Duty Free has opened a fantastic Auchentoshan bar offering a selection of tastings and invites passengers to discover more about this renowned single malt Scotch whisky.

Richard Townsend, Head of Retail and Property at Edinburgh Airport, said: "We’re proud to be working with our partners at Auchentoshan, Delaware North and World Duty Free to launch this amazing celebration of one of Scotland’s most famous products.

"Scotch whisky is renowned the world over and we want our passengers to be at the heart of our new festival. With the Edinburgh Fringe well underway and the Ryder Cup just around the corner, we’re expecting millions of people to be travelling through our airport over the few months.

"Whisky is the perfect gift to take home to relatives or treat yourself with so why not stop off at our World Duty Free store and browse all that we have to offer or have a chat with their expert staff to help you find the ideal malt."

Elizabeth Bryan, Liquor Buyer at World Duty Free Group, comments: "We’re delighted to be able to showcase Auchentoshan single malt Scotch whisky at Edinburgh Airport.

"Customers visiting our Auchentoshan bar can discover more about this whisky and enjoy all of the great dishes and cocktails on offer in the airport restaurants."
