Edinburgh Airport and Turkish Airlines are offering children from around Scotland the chance to win flights anywhere in the world with the launch of a brand new drawing competition.
The Draw the World competition, which launched this week, encourages children, aged between three and 12-years, to research and learn about different countries and cultures and draw a picture based on one of ten exciting global destinations. The winning entrant will receive free flights to any Turkish Airlines destination you can fly to from Edinburgh via Istanbul.
The best entries will also be displayed in the airport during the upcoming construction work which will see a brand new extension added to the main terminal building.
A special competition website has been created (draw.edinburghairport.com) with a 'Destination Dictionary' to showcase the ten destinations entrants can choose to draw. The dictionary features some interesting facts and pictures of each destination to give budding young artists some inspiration for their drawing.
There are three age-groups for the Draw the World competition – three to five, six to nine and ten to twelve. A winner from each age-group will be chosen and all three will be entered into another draw with the overall winner receiving free flights and each runner receiving 15% off flights and a goodie bag.
Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport, said: "This competition is about encouraging children to learn about cities and countries around the world that they may not necessarily have heard of. It's about showing them that these exciting destinations are a lot closer than they might think.
"We've worked closely with our colleagues at Turkish Airlines over the last 12 months and they've become hugely popular, having increased their flight schedule to daily in May of this year.
"Edinburgh Airport is about to undergo a massive expansion and we realise that over the next two years the airport may not look its best. That's why we've decided that the best entries from the Draw the World competition will be displayed in the airport."
Serhat Sari, General Manager for Scotland at Turkish Airlines, said: "We're delighted to be working with Edinburgh Airport on the Draw the World competition. This is a great initiative which allows us to reach out to communities across Scotland and show that some of the world's most exciting and exotic destinations can be easily reached from Edinburgh via Istanbul.
"We look forward to seeing all the entries and to welcoming the winners from each category to Edinburgh Airport in December."
The Draw the World will be open until Thursday 22 November. Winners from each age category will be notified before 29 November and will be invited with their families to a Christmas lunch at Edinburgh Airport on Saturday 07 December where the overall winner will be chosen. The winner will receive free flights for a family of four to any Turkish Airlines destination
