New Edinburgh route creates first ever links to Lithuania
Scotland gains a brand new route as low-cost Lithuanian airline Star1 Airlines announced two weekly flights from Vilnius to Edinburgh during the summer season.
Star1 Airlines will launch its regular flights between Edinburgh and Vilnius from 28 March on Thursdays and Sundays (as of May 7 - on Fridays and Sundays). Fares to Edinburgh including all fees start from just £25. Gordon Dewar, Managing Director, Edinburgh Airport said: "We are thrilled to welcome Star1 Airlines to Edinburgh airport. Lithuania is becoming an increasingly popular destination but has previously not been easy to get to from Scotland.
As the UK's fastest growing airport we’re committed to expanding our route networks, providing more choice and lower fares for air travellers, and making Edinburgh better connected than ever before. This new route is sure to be a hit with people throughout the country and we look forward to working with Star1 Airlines.”
Martynas Laivys, Head of Star1 Airlines said: “Scotland’s capital city is a fantastic destination and we are really excited to be providing what is the first direct scheduled route to Vilnius, another vibrant European city. We are sure the connection will prove popular with inbound visitors as well as giving Scots the opportunity to explore the Lithuanian capital, which last year held the title of European Capital of Culture. It is a beautiful city with a rich heritage offering much to see and do.”
The airline does not charge for luggage – one suitcase not exceeding 20 kg will be carried free of charge. Laivys continued: “This is particularly important to our customers who travel for business or leisure purposes. Free luggage and flight check-in are some of our advantages which bring down the costs of each traveller”.
